Kenny Stamatopolous
Hello TIL, I'm a Toronto FC supporter in Canada and we recently just brought over Kenny Stamatpolous from Tromso. I was wondering what you guys had to say about him? How did he do for Tromso?
Also, some people on our forum (www.redpatchboys.com) were wondering if you at Tromso had any chants or songs that you sing for Kenny.
Thank you

Solid basic skills, but seemed a bit prone to fumble when he came to us last year. Thus, he also lost his place in the starting lineup. Will always be a fan favorite after lifting a Molde player by the hair a foot in the air in his first game for the club.
Improved his consistency tremendously in pre-season this year, and it was reportedly a close call when deciding amongst our goalies for the starting lineup for the season. While he may have more balanced balanced skills, he lacks some of our current starter's (Ramovic) extreme reflexes on the line, though, so he lost out again.
Got his chance to play after an injury and did extremely well, showing solid skills and decent communication with the defense. Sadly, he broke his cheekbone in two places in the last match he played. Still determined to fight for his place in the lineup though, he even bought a silly leopard mask and refused injury leave! (Did I mention he's a fan favorite?) To the dismay of many, he still lost the place when Ramovic came back from injury. Understandable from the coaches point of view perhaps (he was injured after all), but he certainly hadn't lost his spot by virtue of his performance on the pitch (and it would be easy as a fan to feel that his tenacity in trying to keep it should have been rewarded).
Overall a well rounded goalkeeper with no shining strengths or glaring weaknesses (if his fumbles from last year are gone for good). If I were to mention something negative, it would be that his timing in the fieldwork may be a little off on occasion. On the positive side, he’s solid one-on-one, although his style when meeting an attacker through on goal might net him some (undeserved?) cautions or penalties against during the course of a full season.

Great reply, thanks for the info. We were optimistic about Kenny even though we didn't know a whole lot about him. All we really knew of him was what we saw from a couple Canada national team games, and we had heard about the fight he got in during his first game with you, heh
I'm glad to hear he's a fan favourite type player. In Toronto we love scrappy players like that and i'm sure he'll do great for us. The refs in the MLS are disgustingly bad though and are harsh on physical play so I can see him getting more bookings and penalties than he has in Norway. Toronto is a hockey town though so we're conditioned to love hard players like that though

Oh, and off topic: I checked out your message board an noticed that you guys think that Kevin Harmse is a Wanker...
He actually played two games for us as a sub back in 2003. We've generally been lucky with our Canadian players (Bernier and Hirshfield in particular), but this one wasn't didn't leave much impact at the time. So do kick his LA Galaxy-playing ass this weekend!

Here it is, by the way (starts about 2.40 in, I think it works for foreign IPs). A horrible game by us against a horrible team (relegated last year, yay!), but the lads won the brawl. Kenny ran 75 meters to 'join the fun' before being restrained by fellow Canadians Ademolu and Bernier.gaukaren wrote:Will always be a fan favorite after lifting a Molde player by the hair a foot in the air in his first game for the club.

Haha that's a classic brawl. I'm proud our Canadians are representing well in Norwaygaukaren wrote:Here it is, by the way (starts about 2.40 in, I think it works for foreign IPs). And I don't think we'll get to mess up Harmse too bad, that duster won't even make it off the bench for Galaxy lol

Here is an article from The Sun about how Toronto´s supporters plan to welcome Beckham to town.
Red Patch Boys set to bait Becks
By LANCE HORNBY
Many people are working overtime to ensure David Beckham has a memorable visit this weekend, including Toronto FC's mischievous Red Patch Boys.
The group won't miss this chance to lampoon England's famous soccer export. Stationed at the south end of BMO Field, the 1,575-strong club has chants, songs and some creative visuals especially prepared for Beckham and the L.A. Galaxy, including balloons, women's underwear and pink steamers.
They've rented two London-style double decker buses for a special motorcade to the 7:30 p.m. game.
"He'll certainly see us and hear us, even if he doesn't play," Red Patch Boys president Michael Dubrick yesterday said. "I'm not sure how much of it will catch on with the other fans on Sunday (BMO will have a record crowd of around 20,500), but I think everyone is going to have fun."
Opponents waiting to take a corner kick have found themselves tangled in red TFC streamers, but pink is tomorrow's colour in honour of Beckham.
"We have miles of it, just because he's such a fancy boy," Dubrick said with a laugh. "If he takes a kick, we're going to really let him have it." The gesture is good natured as some of the ribbons are to be sold with proceeds going to a breast cancer charity.
"We've also been going to the dollar store to buy lots of women's underwear, because there was a story that he liked to wear Posh's," Dubrick said
Beckham's Spice Girl wife isn't coming to town until January with her re-united group, but she hasn't been forgotten by the Red Patch Boys.
"She's the real legend of the two," Dubrick said. "We've created a song along the lines of she really wants to marry (FC striker) Danny Dichio."
Beckham was to arrive late last night on a charter flight from L.A. During the course of a special Air Canada Centre press conference today and for tomorrow's game, he'll be facing close to 200 accredited media and photographers from North America and the U.K., everything from Sports Illustrated to entertainment magazines to a Toronto gay publication.
Some TFC concession booths are adding a No. 23 Beckham replica Galaxy sweater for the game for about $70 and a souvenir T-shirt is in the works.

Offense wins games, defense wins titles.
In my opinion Kenny is an excellent goalkeper. I think it was a pity that the boss didn't let Kenny play with his leopard mask. Kenny did what he could to continue his stream of very good matches. After all we didn't lose any of the games with Kenny?
He did some superb saves and was very much safer in his aerial work compared to earlier. I think he has had a fantastic development the last year.

Kenny is a fantastic squad player, he will take one for the team any day. very likable character, highly charismatic! Long live Kenny Starfighter!
from what I heard LA galaxy had one shot on target, which wasn't to much trouble for Kenny, so hopefully he will get his hands dirty in the next games, and prove his worth
